Artist Biography

Adria Gialdini Santunione was born in Boretto, Italy about 1920. Painter and restorer of a very high reputation, she began to paint in the difficult years of the post-WWII period. She moved to Bologna after her wedding. She attended and started to study the art of restoration in the Pinacoteca (National Art Gallery of Bologna, Italy). She took part in the restorations of large works of Bologna paintings; from Guido Reni Nov.4,1575–Aug18,1642 (Baroque) to Annibale Carracci Nov.3, 1560–July15,1609 (Baroque), from Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, best known as Guercino, Feb.8,1591-Dec.22,1666 to Federico Barocci born about 1526–1612. Adria Gialdini Santunione left the Pinacoteca after over ten years. She has restored and painted for superintendents of Italian public galleries, English binders and Americans. Her activities have always alternated between restorations and paintings. Topics of her works are landscapes, marine life, nature, portraits, and still life to the supernatural still life. Adria Gialdini Santunione lived and worked in Via Buozzi 20, Rastignano (Bologna) until her death in November 2014.
